Road trip

I recently came accross these road trip prints from the very talented Amber Armitage who is a designer for Homestyle magazine.

The way these prints are styled with the white block at the bottom is perfection. Not to mention they start from as little as $49. They would add a great pop of colour to any space, my personal favourite is the road side print with the buildings and cacti.

Monochromatic

One of my favourite interior stylists that does monochromatic to perfection is The Design Chaser. She does black and white perfectly with the right amount of objects and pattern in a space, check out her website to see more stunning images, I feel like I need that large ‘g’ artwork that features in some of her shots. There is something so classic, yet modern about black and white, I’ve also put together a moodboard of some lovely black and white homewares from some of my favourite homeware stores. The Design Chaser 1The Design Chaser 2The Design Chaser 3The Design Chaser 4Black and white moodboardFather Rabbit

Cactus Terrarium’s

For a little while now I have had a slight obsession with cacti, I think it’s the quirky shapes and how easy to look after they are (One of the few plants I can manage to keep alive). I’ve seen a lot of images of cactus terrarium’s lately so decided to make one myself. It was super easy and can be made with cacti or succulents. I would recommend wearing gloves if making one with cacti, I didn’t have any and it was a bit of a mission.

What you will need:

• Potting mix

• Selection of cacti or succulents

• Glass bowl or whatever you choose to make it in

• Stones or any extras to add on top

Basically all of this I found at The Warehouse and was all relatively cheap. I recommend having a look at ‘cactus terrarium’ on Pinterest if you need any inspiration.Cactus Terrarium - what you will needCactus Terrarium with white stonesCactus Terrarium with flowersCactus Terrarium

Copper and Quotes

Of all the different metals, copper is one of my favourites! For a material that is so cold it has such warmth to it and brings a different colour tone to an interior. Below, I have created a copper and quotes mood board of some homewares and copper foil prints that have caught my eye recently. I personally own the Jasmine Dowling Limited Edition print and the quality and metallic finish of it are awesome!Copper and quotes moodboard

The New Cool

I was really excited to get a hold of the new issue of Houses magazine and see the Lighthouse Pendant in the ‘Notable Design Section’. Even better when the issue is called “The new cool” how awesome is that title!Houses the new cool

Houses notable design sectionIt is always a great honour to be featured along side some truly talented designers, so to celebrate I have picked two of my favourites that I share the page with Rapee and Kyle Bunting and included some of my favourite pieces from their collections. Have a look at their websites to see more of their beautiful designs.

Rapee

Rapee do gorgeous homewares and soft furnishings, not to mention the styling of their shoots is perfect! A beautiful use of bold colours and prints, which would add a nice pop of colour to any home. I am particularly drawn to their gorgeous fruit print cushions, bit of fun moving into the warmer months. View their Summer 2015 catalogue here

Kyle Bunting

Kyle Bunting is a genius when it comes to hide rugs, cushions and furniture. Simply stunning use of pattern, natural colours and bold brights. I have added the gorgeous stripe, tan rug to my wish list along with a custom ‘G’ cushion of course. Make sure you check out the website here

Photo Shoot Styling

When photo shoot styling for furniture and lighting I have found there is a real art to getting the right amount of accessories in the shot. There is a fine line between overdoing it and not including enough to give the designs a scale. Some of my favourite things to use are plants, generally small and in plain white pots, plants are great because they give a scale without limiting the design to a purpose. For this shoot I experimented with cactus, mini ferns and thyme with a lovely white candle set in glass.

Chunky Knits

Ever since stumbling across the amazing chunky knits of I love Mr Mittens on Instagram I had been intent on trying to knit my own. Thinking it would be a great evening winter project and it wouldn’t be too hard to find an easy pattern and chunky wool. After going through all my mothers knitting patterns I came across a raglan sleeve jumper found in an Australian Women’s Weekly free knitting book and purchased some wool (which was a struggle, very hard to find chunky wool locally). It may have taken a few months, and I may have used the wrong sized needles, but I got there in the end. If you want to knit your own the pattern can be found at the end of this post.

Lighthouse Pendant in situ photography

Had a great time doing the Lighthouse Pendant in situ photography at a few different locations around town, awesome to experiment with how it fits into different interior environments.

Lighthouse Pendant in situ photography - The Contented Pig cafe

This photo was taken at a new Cafe in Fitzroy called The Contented Pig, such a nice fresh interior with white walls and wooden furniture. Delicious looking food and they make a great coffee as well.

Lighthouse Pendant in situ photography - King and Queen HotelThis photo was taken at the new King and Queen Hotel, I recommend this place to everyone, great location and super friendly staff. It has a stunning exterior and interior with a great mix of unique furniture, still slightly obsessed with the zebra print seats!

Stripe Side Table Prototype

Stripe Side Table PrototypeStripe Side Table Prototype detailStripe Side Table Prototype topThe Stripe Side Table prototype is finally complete. This design has been in the works for a while. Featuring American Oak, powder coated metal mesh and a finely painted back edge. Designed to sit against a wall or in the middle of a room, the mild steel frame maintains that pop of colour from all angles, while the wire mesh acts as a backdrop for the displayed contents. Has taken a few attempts to get the details right, but nearly there, next on the cards is a black and a white version.
